tyre size query

Featured Replies

Hi peeps. My friend has asked what would be the pro's and cons of changing tyre size on his mk 1 Fabia vrs. At the moment they are factory 205x45x16 and he wants to know if he can up the profile to 55 as he says they are a lot cheaper. Is there any pitfalls, no no's etc. I told him I would throw the question onto you good guys. Thanks in advance.

205*0.45 = 92.25mm; 205*0.55 = 112.25mm.

The fuel economy might be better, the ride for a given make and model of tyre will be better, but the effective gearing will be higher which will make the acceleration slower, and may make the speedometer read illegally.

Update. My friend took your good advice and stuck with the factory tyre sizes. He went for Toyo proxes at £217 for 4, delivered from someone on ebay. he just needs 'em fitting now !!!!!!
