Dvla database

Featured Replies

Picked up my car on Saturday and have the 5 day complimentary insurance but have just tried to insure car for the year and there is no record of it on the dvla database. I have the "confirmation of registration details" paperwork from the dealer so it seems they have done it. Is it just a case of giving it a bit more time to appear? Or should it be pretty instant?

Edit - just phoned dvla, they said it's been registered today and should show up in a few days. Not great really that I've been driving around for 2 days unaware in an unregistered vehicle.

Not really sure how long it takes, put I was given my Reg number by the dealer a week before I collected the car even though according to the dvla it was first registered on the day i collected it ! I didn't have any problems swapping my insurance over though just had to give the insurance company the vehicle details (Make, model, engine size etc.) as they couldn't find it of the reg plate.

I can still insure the car without the registration anyway but I think it's poor that I've apparently been driving around unregistered. The dealer gave me confirmation papers so don't know how they could get those if it hadn't been done. Not sure if it's the fault of the dealer or dvla at the moment.

The car is registered but not on the system as dealers get a list of reg numbers for that month from the DVLA  it is up to the dealer to put the reg to the vin number of the car it takes a few weeks to show on the database
