Car lock/windows close after 12 hours?

Featured Replies

I'm sure I read in the manual that the car should close the windows and lock itself after 12 hours... But my neighbour has just text me to tell me that one of my windows is open (my little one forgot to close it yesterday afternoon, and I've cycled to work today).

Is there something I'm missing?

Luckily I had the presence of mind to ask my neighbour to chuck some water over the windscreen, which did the trick and the window has closed itself, but I'd rather it did it after 12 hours too!

I've not heard of the 12 hour rule.

Sent me scurrying back to the manual, but here's what I'm referring to:

Comfort: Here you can activate, deactivate or adjust the following functions:

Rain closing: Switch on/off the function for automatically closing the window and panoramic tilt/slide sunroof in a locked rain [sic] when it starts raining*. If the function is set and it is not raining, the windows including the panoramic tilt/slide sunroof will close automatically after approx. 12 hours.

*This function is only available on vehicles with a rain sensor.

Clearly my car (Mk2 FL, 59 plate L&K) meets the criteria as the car closed the windows when the rain sensor was tripped. I'd have liked it to close the window after 12 hours though!!

Mine has rain sensor but does close the windows after twelve hours. I know this because in the hot weather last week I opened all the windows with a long press of the remote open button then locked the doors with short press of the close button. Next morning I found the windows still open after nearly 24 hours.

Hmmm maybe an error in the manual then? Wouldn't be the first I'm sure :D

Edit

Missing word in bold. That's what happens when they call your train while your still typing!

As well as setting up the correct tick boxes in the MFD, you probably need the wipers set to anything but "off".

My car is parked Mon-Fri with all the windows open a bit.  They never put themselves up unless outside and it rains.
