help with knocking noise from B pillar

Featured Replies

I've got a really annoying noise coming from the drivers side B-pillar area, a sort of light knock as if tapping the frame with a screwdriver.  This is the order of my investigation:

Removed door cards from front and rear and used felt tape around edges

lubed the door seals

I still got the noise and narrowed it down to bumps in the road and then I further narrowed it down to when I reverse onto my drive at an angle and the car twists, or if I suddenly hit the brakes on the driveway, it produces the noise, like a faint "knock" on the pillar.  I've then removed all of the door pillar trim, and opened both driver and rear doors and performed the same manoeuvre, still there, so it's not the plastic trim or the metal clips rubbing or anything to do with door locks.

Sprayed silicon spray against all of the joins where the chassis is spot-welded

Tried to give the door hinge blots a tighten (a common problem on the Golf and Scirocco)

Sprayed just about everything inside the door pillar with silicon

Pulled/pushed on all of the seatbelt mechanism while doing the manoeuvre on the driveway.

Sprayed all rear seat hinges and locks incase it's a referred noise

Still got the slight knocking noise.  It wondered if it was coming from one of those stupid metal panel pins Skoda use (had a similar noise in the boot) rubbing in the metal chassis, except there are no interior panels left on the car.  Any help much appreciated, otherwise I may have to take it into Skoda (who probably won't be able to replicate the problem).

I get a slight "Chattering" in that area but I think it comes from the seatbelt bracket. Seems to stop, if I hold the bracket by hand and seems noisier or more noticeable in cold conditions. It sounds like it is just behind your right ear. Not loud enough to do anything about, though. Un-noticable if music is playing!

i removed all of the trim and the noise seems to be coming from the right rear strut bracket, the noise is echoing through the chassis to the B-pillar.

I think the part is £20 plus fitting, will let you know when I find time to get it fixed!
