Introducing the Chilean Hulk! (Fabia mk2 vRS)

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

I owned a 2012 Skoda Fabia 1.6 MPI 105HP, I love that car but I had the opportunity to go for a RS. I found a really nice Octavia vRS mk2 at the same price of a Fabia, what was a bit surprising and tempting. However, my dream car was always the Fabia vRS so I went for that one.

I was about 2 month without a car, after selling my 1.6. Every time I was about to sign for one unit, something happened... During that time, a new green vRS was published but with a small detail... "failed DSG". Here in Chile Skodas in general and especially the Fabias are really uncommon, so is hard to find one. (For example, right now there is not any Fabia vRS for sale). Also, we don't have the extended warranty for DSG7 that you have in Europe... (unfortunately... I think the dealer here is just screwing with that). As the car didn't have the service at the dealership, there was no way to have the warranty. The estimated cost for the repair was about €5.300 just for the mechatronic....

Long story short, I decided that I will be more relaxed with a repaired DSG over thinking that at any moment the gearbox will fail and I will have to spend €5.300 more fixing it. This unit also has few other details... Broken windshield and rear bumper. Also, as the car wasn't moving, it was impossible to know how the clutches were. Finally, the car was 500 km away from home (ok, for you this is not a big issue, but here in Chile half of the population are in the same city haha).. this will not be a problem but I couldn't drive the car back home.

Finally we started the adventure, 8 in the morning with a friend in my father's Skoda Kodiaq 1.4 TSI FWD (nice car BYT, I love it). We managed to get a trailer to mount the car. We arrived at the destination, we found other details as a broken central armrest, small damage in the front bumper, etc.

We had a lot of issues trying to fit the car in the dolly... about 2 hours there, then tying it few more hours. We started back home and arrive at 6:30 am of the next day, without sleep. What an adventure.

As I have few youtube channels in Chile about cars, I recorded everything and I'm starting a series about Hulk. The first episode is going to pick it up. The video is in spanish but you can enable the subtitles.

What do you think about the project? I'm really exited about it!

Cheers!

Next Step: Repair the DSG

I bought the car on a Thursday, arrived back home on Friday at 6:30 am. A few hours later I took the car and left in the garage for the DSG work. Surprisingly, the next Tuesday they called me from the garage saying that the car was ready. I was shocked, just 3 days for repair the DSG. Then I was able to drive my car for the first time.

Immediately I went to pick it up and left in the other garage to repair the rear bumper.

Repair the DSG took 3 days, but repair the rear bumper took 3 weeks....

After a long, long wait, the car was finished:

On my way to pick the car up, I went to buy all the spares for the service, including Engine cleaner, Ceratec and 5W-30 oil. As I want to use the car for some trackdays, I chose that oil with a lifetime of just 10.000km (instead of 15.000km).
