Skoda Connect failed?

Featured Replies

Does anybody else have issues with Skoda Connect at the moment?

I had it set up and working but didnt use it for a couple of weeks, and  have also change to a different SIM card.

I now have no functionality. The globe is white and I can see that my attempts to get online have been using data (I can see usage on an app) but no joy. I've factory reset the unit, removed the car from my online portal etc, but every time I'm asked for the code to re register the car it just says "Registration Unsuccessful: Please try again".

I get the same message when using my phone as a hotspot, or connecting to the house WiFi.

Help!

I did a factory reset a couple of weeks ago... took me a few hours of shouting and screaming to work out the secret. You have to:

1 - Log onto Skoda Connect on your laptop (or whatever, but you need to use the website, not the app).

2 - Delete your car.

3 - Add your car again and go through the process of signing up (the expiry dates won't change and the cost shows as £0.00).

4 - You get emailed a new code.

It would appear that the codes are single-use only - you can't re-use them in the event of factory resetting the unit. Also, you can't just sign up again on the website - even though it would appear that you can when you log on - as it just gets stuck in a loop and never emails you a code. You have to delete the car and re-add it.

This does, unfortunately, mean that you lose all your historical data. But the car syncs the current long-term etc. figures back up again (which probably won't be from when you got it).

Sadly done all that. Multiple times and multiple codes.  "Registration Unsuccessful: Please try again" every single time.

It’s working ok for me at the moment, but it does sometimes have flakey periods when it won’t allow logins.

Thanks. I'm tempted to leave it a week and then see how it looks afterwards. If still a problem I'll get it back to the dealer.

I’ve only ever had it not work for a few hours. I’d say that if you’re still having issues tomorrow then it’s not a Connect issue and you should get Skoda to help.

Its definitely working right now by the way - the app on my phone can connect fine, and the car is currently sat downloading map updates.

Thanks. Who should I expect a fix from... Skoda Customer Services or a dealer?

I did phone a dealer yesterday... They told me how computers can be funny and sometimes they have glitches..... Highly technical clearly!

I've tried deleting my entire Skoda Connect account and the re-registering with a new email.

I have got the exact same issue with registering... The code isn't accepted.

Definitely looking like a trip to the dealer soon. Really unimpressed that I cannot access any of the life traffic or similar functionality.

When you enter the VIN, are you sure you’re not getting letters and numbers mixed up? I had to try a couple of times as I confused an O with a 0.

I would try pressing the “i” button on the SOS module in the roof and ask them to help set it up whilst you’re sat in the car. Isn’t that what it’s for?

No the car is being recognised by the portal. It's just the code generated for registration isn't being recognised by the Columbus infotainment unit. So VIN must be correct.

Both i and spanner buttons fail to work. Both say no licence.

Yes... they require Skoda Connect to be up and running. They're part of the 'Care Connect' bit, as opposed to the 'Infotainment online' bit.

I think you are best off getting your dealer to sort it out.

Yep. Who of course can't look at it for a fortnight and might not be able to fix it anyway...!

An update....

I dropped in to the dealer today. Cue much fiddling with settings and scratched heads.

They seemed puzzled but then one of the technicians ticked the Data Roaming option... And everything came to life. And stayed alive once we unticked the option too.... Strange.

I can now view live traffic, access my car through the Connect App and flash the lights remotely!

All a bit bizarre.

Funny you should mention that. My connectivity went a bit screwy again the other day - and sorted itself out when I unticked the 'data roaming' option. I ticked it again to see if it would break, and all is still working.

The option should obviously be renamed 'fix t'interweb connection' :D

I kissed it all goodbye after 12 months. Just a pointless gimmick.

I find the live traffic invaluable. One man's trash is another man's treasure.....

How much more 'live' is it?

I don't use Skoda Connect but the sat nav on the Columbus still reports traffic congestion and quicker routes avoiding traffic jams etc.

Pretty instant I've found. I've seen an accident happen on the motorway and the traffic shiw on the Columbus within a minute or so.

It's the difference between traffic information from Google - which is updated by lots of people with Android phones in near real-time and contains information from just about any road... and the RDS-TMC data which is collected from sensors on bridges and by the side of major roads and motorways only, and although supposedly near real-time can still be reporting queues for a long time after they've gone, or just as bad not reporting them a long time after they've started.

Although... I've just looked up the RDS-TMC page on wikipedia and it reckons for the UK the data is collected like this:

This system uses Floating Vehicle Data, which include positional information from over 160,000 fleet vehicles fitted. The data is complemented by journalistic or "Incident" data provided by Trafficlink. Trafficlink is owned by ITIS and provides traffic and travel bulletins to BBC Radio and to over 95% of the UK commercial radio stations. Incident data includes road works, accidents and closures.

It's definitely not as detailed (nor timely) as the traffic info from Google IME.
