ICE installation

Featured Replies

Hey guys, first post after browsing for a couple of months.

I recently purchased a mk2 pre-facelift model with the radio display being shot. I normally compete in local sound quality shows and want to do so with this car. The thing is I want to install an aftermarket 2din head unit. I wanted to know if I can splice into the stock wiring and pull the constant 12v, ign, ground, illumination, mute and reverse sensor connections? Or do I need a complete canbus wiring conversion kit?

I would be running rcas down the middle if the car to a dsp. Don't have any need for nav or the speaker level inputs.

I have been searching the forums and have only come across the bolero, eonon and Android upgrades, but I don't need all of that I just need a good CD transport to the dsp.

Thanks

If your not wanting all the bells and whistles to show on the display, such as your reversing sensors etc, I'd imagine most double DIN units should fit but might need an adaptor for the wiring harness....

I know they're not everyone's cup of tea but ask in Halfords about the comparability of their head units and what you'd need to fit it.

Thanks.

Not located in the UK so I don't really have speedy access to Halfords.

Bells and whistles not needed. I just am trying ensure that I wont be affecting anything by just taking the connections I need from the canbus harness.

Its easier with a canbus kit as there is no switched live and you will need to get one from the fuse box. A canbus kit will be plug and play.

I bought myself one of these  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172855888151  very handy because it has Right / Left and Sub outputs. (It wasnt from this company by they way, they were just the first hit on Ebay!)
If your car has a Bolero stereo this should be a straight swap. If not, there are similar ones on the market for different shapes

Works pretty well and maitains all the canbus options

Car has stream mp3. Want to add an alpine DVD headunit. But will the ISO connector kit then have to be spliced into the alpine harness? Or will it plug directly into the d310 harness?

Please forgive my misunderstanding... I'm accustomed to Japanese cars where this is not an issue. This is my first euro car.

Okay, I see what you're trying to do now.

You are probably going to want to get yourself a Skoda to ISO converter cable. Make sure you get one that has a built in fakra antenna convertor & amp or your radio reception will be rubish.

The Skoda radio plug is nlt exactly standard :-)

After that it should be fairly straight forward. However you will lose all the stuff like reversing sensors.

Update

Got in touch with Connect2 and will be getting the Iso to canbus interface adapter kit, complete with the antenna adapter and facia plates, patch lead, and the iso/canbus harness. Plug and play.

CTKSK02 is the part #.

Thanks guys
