Changed front speakers but not impressed

Featured Replies

My 4x4 Octavia combi had:

A HU - Blaupunkt / Dublin 4x45W radiocasette and standard speakers.

As read on this forum I did cut the plastic sheet behind the front speakers and there was a HUUGE quality/cost improvment on bass.

Last week I changed the front speakers only to pioneer tsg 1746 - but i am not impressed with the result.

Is this beacuse of an entry level HU?

It worths fitting a CD MP3 player? - what type would you recommend (max GBP200)

I am looking a "clearer sound" not a louder one - as my friend has his standard outfit in his seat leon 4X4 1.8T (with Navi)

The HU sounds like it's decent enough at 4x45W - the Pioneer's are entry level though, maybe they're just not good enough as front speakers?

Is it the case that the speakers better sounding than the standard speakers, but they're still not as good as you would like?

a 4x4 leon? the pioneer mp77 is meant to be good

Rob,

Pioneer sounds better than standard "but not as good".

Ken - yes 4X4 leon 20VT180bhp.

I meant max GBP200 shelf price - then I'll go chase one on ebay.

Robert

Probably best returning the Pioneer speakers and getting some better ones...probably cost about twice the price of the Pioneers, but will be a better investment than a new head unit - unless you particularly want an MP3 CD player. ;)

Have you disconnected the tweeters front and rear? I found I achieved a much better sound

with the 1746's once I'd done this and touched the bass up to +1. I'm still using the standard head unit and hope it will sound even better when I change that. Spend

anyone know internet based companies that sell focal speakers?

Audioscape is one place, but Focal are far from cheap and quite possibly overkill for the Skoda, as it has relatively little soundproofing...
