Driving Europe - ACC observation

Featured Replies

We’ve just got back from an 1800 mile tour of Europe in our Kodiaq, which proved itself to be an outstandingly comfortable and quiet long distance cruiser.

Out of interesting, setting the menu option to adjust the lights for driving on the right did not seem to have any effect on the ACC - for the first 10 minutes of autoroute driving it refused to pass any vehicles to my right assuming I was undertaking. After 10 minutes or so of prodding the throttle every time to convince it otherwise and override it, it seemed to work out that overtaking on the left was ok and flipped its behaviour.

It was the same deal on return to the UK when it refused to pass on the right at first, but worked it out after a few cars.

Is there a separate setting for the ACC to tell it which side of the road you’re driving on, or is it a case of it just working it out for itself?

It’s a shame it can’t change those settings itself automatically via GPS/maps as it would save having to manually select the time zone and adjust the lights via two separate menu options (that can only be set with the ignition on). Maybe you have to pay for an Audi to get that level of simply cleverness ;-)

Otherwise a great trip, and quite pleased with 43MPG average for the entire trip from a fully laden car with camping gear to the rafters, 4 up and 3 bikes hanging off the back. Particularly since the A/C was working hard - saw 39C at one point on the autoroute.

Sounds like a fun trip.

Which model?

Sorry, 190 TDi DSG 7 seat

We're heading to France next week, I'd assumed that the lights changes automatically from the Sat Nav seeing we're abroad.

Looks like I'm going to have to brush up on the owners manual again if it requires manual intervention.

I read some forum posts that implied 2018 models no longer automatically update. I didn’t wait to see what happens and changed the lights manually whilst waiting in the 5 hour queue for the Eurotunnel crossing

The clock definitely doesn’t automatically change.

5 hour queue...? We drove straight up to the check-in this evening and got on a crossing an hour earlier than the one we were booked for :D.

Had to change the time zone and lights manually through the infotainment - although it did pop up with the speed limits for France when I started up ready to leave the train.

Same problem with the ACC not wanting to pass on the left... but oddly it was working at first, then started moaning after I had turned Lane Assist off and back on (that kept moaning at me for apparently letting go of the steering wheel - every 90 seconds or so!).

Anyway - 4 up with a boot full of luggage (all under the cover somehow) and I’m still getting 45mpg so far from my underpowered 2-cylinder engine. Not bad so far and really enjoying empty French autoroutes.
