What are the recommended tyres for octy 2 estate 1.9 tdi

Featured Replies

Have been reading the thread about steering on the Octy 2 and am wondering what the best tyres are to replace the Bridgestones (people on here don't seem to rate Bridgestones) that are on it, when I need to. By the way I have the standard Vega 6.5 x 16" 205/55 R16 alloy wheels and won't be changing those.

I'd be interested to hear your opinions. Thanks.

Tyres are very much a persoanl preference and also car related, ie tyres that work well on a rear wheel drive BMW might not work well on a FWD Skoda, also power delivery from the engine is also a factor, so a low power car will suit different tyres than a high power one.

Many people, including Car Mags don't rate Hankook tyres, but I've had them on my Audi for 3 sets and rate them very well after they'd been scrubbed in for about 2mm.

On the vRS / high performance cars I run Eagle F1 or Potenzas, as I like these. I hate Mich Pilot Sport ones but I've heard the Mich PS IIs are great.

Whats your budet? Some of the lesser known brands are alos very good but some people are brand snobs. In recent tyre tests Michelin failed to get better than 9th out of 20 and the top performers were not the most expensive branded tyres.

Khumo are pretty good in the mid sector, Dunlop and Pirelli are average.

These guys offer some of the best prices and offer reviews advice on tyres.

Post you budget and I'll pick some good tyres for you based on my 16 years driving experience and being a very fussy bu99er when it comes to tyres.

That is very informative, thanks. We have used Toyo tyres on our R reg Golf 1.9 TDi GL. and they seemed ok. I can guarantee you that I am not a tyre snob.

I guess I'd be looking for tyres that help the car ride smoothly and last a reasonable amount of mileage, travelling to and from work I clock up over 50 miles each day and then about another 60 to 70 at weekends. Budget wise I don't have to buy the cheapest, would like to think I bought ones that do the best job for the car ride wise and are economical too. I won't want to spend hundreds of pounds on a tyre. If you get my drift.

Continental tires seem to come out well on most tests when used in both wet and dry conditions, plus of course it depends on your average mileage, if you do not drive long journeys much then economy tires may well suit your needs.

Michelin Pilot Primacy. Great grip, great ride, quiet, and long lasting. By far the best all round tyre i've ever driven on.

I debated numerous tyres priced them at various places including the Web, and then ended up with the above for

Many thanks, I've made of note of these for when I'll need to replace my tyres, hopefully not for a good long while yet!

Do bear in mind that it says in the book that ALL four tires should be similar in order for things like the traction and braking management controls to work correctly.

Mind you it is a bit vague because they do not define what "similar tires" means is it just same dimensions, same tread pattern or same make?

I would assume they mean the same dimensions, but how do we know?
