Alloy wheel poke outwards, how much is too much?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Gonna post this here as it is MK2 VRS Octavia specific.

Have ordered new alloys and made a slight mistake. Ordered ET38 instead of ET48 which means alloys will poke outwards an extra 19.4mm than the standard Neptune's which are ET51

Is there many issues with this apart from the obvious slight more chance of kerbing?

What width?

7.5" ET38 is probably OK.

I know from experience that 8" ET35 (so an extra 3mm poke over ET38 is fine on the rear but (for my taste) sticks out a bit much (10mm) on the front.  My ideal is 8" ET45.

this is 8" ET35.  You can see up front it's a about 10mm proud of the guard

Thanks for the response.

8J - ET38 current standard are 7.5J - ET51.

Apparently they will fit but I will get them coming out 19.4mm. It's not as bad as I thought having researched it all day but I would still like valid opinions :)

I actually liked the look of the poke with the tractor spec springs but didn't like the steering feel.  I probably could have aligned it out but couldn't be bothered and sold the rims when the tyres wore out.  In hindsight, I should have had 5-10mm shaved off the rear hub face as they were lovely, lightweight rims (BBS).

The poke does look quite aggressive, I have come round to it. I was trying to keep as factory spec as possible with the new rims but I guess I can go with what I have without too much issue :)
