Wheel wax recommendation please

Featured Replies

Currently using AF Mint Rims and very happy with the quality and longevity of the protection. But the three coats and three hours between coats makes it a full day job to protect the wheels. Any recommendations on what I could use to get the same level of protection a bit more quickly? Thanks in advance.

I use mint rims twice a year, i find that its enough but i dont drive a lot, to top up the protection on the wheels ill spray some autofinesse aqua coat and rinse.

What paint sealant have you got in the cupboard already Jeff?

TBH, I've tried various wheel potions over the years and always felt that I was just buying another product for a similar outcome. So I started to use sealant I already had in the box.

Two coats and the cure time is about 30 mins, so it's certainly a lot easier and quicker than your previous experiences. I also find the consistency of paint sealant far easier and quicker to apply as a product anyway - Poorboy's Wheel Sealant used to drive me up the wall! But just my personal experience :)

Just the Fusso dark. I thought about using it, but wasn't sure how it would react to the high temperatures. My current Mint Rims coats are showing signs of breaking down after 4-5 months / 13k miles, so I've nothing to complain about. But it's a long day doing them as it needs 3 coats and 3 hours between each coat. Hence wondering if there is something less time-consuming that would do as good a job.

Thing is, the face of the wheel never get stupidly hot. Same if you're having the wheels off and treating the inside areas.

As with quite a lot of stuff with detailing, it's trial & error - and how you get on with a particular product and approach. So as you have the Fusso, I'd trial it. As I'm confident it's a good match for what you want it to do (easy & quick application plus good duration) I'd do the 4 wheels - but that's down to you, you might just want to try it on 1 of them :)

Poorboys wheel sealant for me, used it for years and just done the wife's 17 plate Fabia SE wheels with it the day after she picked it up from Mitchells.

A proper decontaminate then 3 coats with half an hour between each will be good for at least 10000 miles from previous experience.

BMD Revolutions Wheel Wax is my long term favourite.

2 coats of this - a doddle to use...

then Sonax BSD top-up after maintenance washes.

I use FK 1000P for the car and the wheels, lasts a couple of months.

You should get longer out of FK1000p but depends on prep, number of layers and amount of driving/mileage too.

You are right Wardy. This is the minimum time I get dependant on what I clean the wheels with. FK can last 6-12 months but where you live and milage also has an effect on longevity.

Recently started using poorboys wheel sealant but I've never used any of the others so can't compare it against anything

It should usually be a double win with the maintenance cleaning process too.

As they're protected and brake dust shouldn't be sticking, I just use a small amount of shampoo in the wheel bucket and they require very little agitation. 90% typically comes off after the snowfoam is rinsed off.
