Power steering light flashes KESSY - Fabia III

Featured Replies

I've just collected a 67-plate Fabia III 1.0Tsi Colour Edition which has KESSY.

When I open the car, the door unlocks and the display lights up. There is also a slight whirring noise and the power steering light comes on for a second then goes off. There are no warning lights as the car starts or non have appeared over the 40 miles I've driven.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does it suggest the power steering fluid could be low? I'm phoning the main dealer where I collected from tomorrow but wondered if anyone else had heard of this problem.

Thank you

Roo,

If the power steering warning light illuminates yellow for a second or two and then extinguishes it is probably the car advising that the steering lock has been deactivated. I believe that the time to worry is when it illuminates red.

Neil.

Perfectly normal.

As Fabikent said. The steering lock is on when parked, when you press the start button the steering lock is is deactivated. In a car with key ignition you have to insert the key and turn it to unlock the steering,  Kessy does this for you.

Be aware of another noise you can listen for.  When the car has been parked a while,

when the drivers door open the fuel pump primes the system.

Thank you Fabikent and Moley for reassuring me. It seemed to make sense but I was just suprised to see the warning light. My main dealer couldn't really explain why they had a 67-plate Fabia (11 months old) with 1,900 miles which was registered 100 miles away.

Otherwise, the car is amazing - I've been driving a 2008 1.9Tdi Sport for the last 9 years so it feels totally different.

Thank you Offski. I'll remember that the fuel pump can prime.
