Reverse parking sensor

Featured Replies

Hello,

Just got in my car and went to reverse it and the back mid right sensor indicated there was something right up to my car and beeped. I got out and checked, nothing. Drove for a little bit and checked again, same thing.

It was wet from rain an hour ago so I gave it a little wipe and tried again, it seemed to work for a few seconds so I assume it's some kind of intermittent electrical fault? Anyone ever had this issue? Cars a 2010 MK2 vRS.

D-OH!

In my experience a dirty film on the sensor can often cause erroneous beeping, thorough cleaning will stop it.

It can also be a sign of impending sensor failure when it becomes more susceptible to dirt.

I've read it many times about water ingress, the sensor is a sealed plastic unit and the electrical connection is sealed so I very much doubt water is causing electrical issues other than being a film on the ultrasonic emitter/detector.

Good sensors emit a faint ticking sound, select reverse gear with ignition on to check.
