ARB's Strut braces & Tie bars

Featured Replies

Guys,

I was thinking to "upgade" my VRS ARBs (front and rear) with the Neuspeed ARBs.

Specs say 25mm thikness front and rear where rear has 3 level for stiffness.

Is this too stiff than the std ARBs? (I dont want to spoil completely the confort part since i'm using it mostly for trips & heavy load).

Thickness of the std ARBs??

Do you find this "upgrade" reasonable? (currently in quick close cornering the car is benting a lot but handles quite good).

All the above before changing the stock suspension (later maybe).

Do we have any special discount with Awesome GTI (Ade) for the Neuspeed products??

Have you any photos of the Neuspeed upper strut brace and the lower front tie bar fitted?

Since i'm interested are these installed as "bolt ons"?

The lower tie bar is installed without exceeding the lower end of the car?

Your comments on the feeling of the car in understeer, etc?

Thanks,

Hi again :D

Standard front one is 21mm IIRC so 25 is a lot stiffer (I did post up about ARBs and how the stiffness is calculated) IIRC it will be roughly twice as stiff  The rear, although they claim it has one, is welded into the rear beam, so whatever you fit will be additional rather than a replacement.

Sounds reasonable to me. You may also want to check to see if you can get the Eibach anti-roll kit (very similar to the Neuspeed ones but availability may be better).

Don't know about the discount, sorry.

Re the strut braces, if you are going to fit them, do the upper and lower as the upper on its own is purely cosmetic IMHO, you are essentially creating a 3 sided square, you need the bottom one to complete it and make a more rigid structure. If you want them, talk to Erik@AAT (PM him on here) as he does some very nice ones and, yes, we do get a discount. :D

Hope that helps.

Jon

PS as an alternative, cheaper but more fiddly, why not change the bushes - rear beam mounts, engine dogbone and front wishbone ones?

Loukas, some more info for you. I found my old post, it was on Vortex many many moons ago in reply to a question from Ian, so here you go:

Ride height and spring stiffness should be set before uprating the anti-roll bar. The reason is that the lower the front of the car, and the stiffer the front suspension, the less weight transfer there will be and therefore less work for the ARB to do.

ARB are rated on thickness, which is expressed in either mm or inches (or fractions thereof). Watch out though as a few mm or 16th of an inch can double the stiffness of the bar. Reason is that stiffness increases as a fourth power of change in diameter ie you multiply the diameter 4 times to get the stiffness. Best to work it out in mm. eg a 22mm bar gives an end value of 234256 while a 26mm bar gives 456976 (26x26x26x26) basically nearly twice as stiff!

There you go, clear as mud :D
