Power steering rack banjo bolts torque

Featured Replies

Just replaced power steering rack on 2002 skoda Octavia vrs

Anyone know what the torque settings are for the 19mm banjo bolts that connect the fluid lines to the rack?

Hope this helps. All that’s available in the Haynes manual. 72409D4B-A073-498F-8B02-F5C876FAB565.thumb.jpeg.670273c43fd44a7d38020a4ebe844702.jpeg

That's amazing thank you !! :)

You could also bookmark this site as it has a reprint of the vag manual and contains most of what you might need to do most stuff. Although it asks for donations, it is not mandatory and you can just click the close cross to get rid of the message.

That site is excellent.  Thanks Phil

Another quick question.  I have fitted the subframe but now when the tie rods are straight the steering wheel is way out(because this subframe also had attached another power steering rack which was aligned differently).  Do you guys just remove the steering wheel and relocate to fix the out of line steering wheel issue ? I just need it relatively straight so I can at least drive it to the garage properly to have the tracking set up.

You could do but beware that if not done correctly you'll get more lock one way than the other and one tie rod will need to be adjusted to be longer than the other. This happened to me after a "specialist" in Milton Keynes fitted a TT rack to my car.

Ideally when the steering wheel is pointed straight ahead the rack will be centralised (same amount protruding from the rack housing on both sides).

cannot work out how to remove the steering wheel anyway... :/

I can see two holes in the back of it but I cannot get my big head between the dash and steering wheel to see down the hole to see what I need!!. :(

A small flat blade screwdriver.

How small?... I did try a flat blade but couldn`t get the steering wheel off and didn`t want to damage something.  Are they screws you remove or something else like clips, if they are clips what do you do to remove them??

They are spring clips that need to be flicked to the side.

Ahh ok I will give that a try thank you ! :)

Do you have to have a screwdriver either side and unclip them both together or can you unclip one at a time?

One at a time is fine.
