straight speaker swap

Featured Replies

Has anyone upgraded their speakers in the fabia vrs just by doing a straight swap? If so, what speakers did you use? Thanks

Its not really that easy Pix.

You need spacers to fit speakers, and then you can only have them under 65mm deep. You also need to drill the rivets to remove the old ones.

Not a tricky job though.

Another problem would be powering speakers through the OEM head unit. The weaklink is the head unit, and NOT the speakers. The speakers sound pretty good with an after-marked head unit.

if you are worried about keeping the OEM look, try Becker, I'll be fitting one in mine at the weekend and will post up some pics! :)

I'm trying to figure out if that reply was a yes or a no to my simple question

Sorry, just trying to give you the "bigger picture".

There is no such thing as a straight swap without the use of adapters or spacers, unless you try some out of a VAG car. :)

No I haven't... :)

As Tom wrote, you need spacers as the OEM woofers are strangely shaped to fit onto the door.

There's not a lot of space in there but I dare say you could pop an upgraded woofer or co-axial speaker in if you wanted.

I think the main issue is going to be the h/u. It hasn't got a lot of puff to start with and asking it to drive better speakers is likely to tax it to its limits.

I've retained the factory h/u for the time being as I added an amp and speakers, together. Unfortunately, I now find I can't quite get the sound I want as the EQ is limited on it.

So I reckon a h/u swap may be on the cards some time soon...

Another option worth considering is fitting sound deadening. The Ibiza engine muffler thing and the noisekiller kit should make a substantial difference to the noise level in the car on cruise.

I couldnt agree more  - The standard HU isn't the best around but pretty decent, there are a lot worse out there. (and better of course :D )

I just want more volume, and the speakers can't handle it. The last thing I want to do is mess around with other bits and pieces, I just havn't got the motivation like you boys have

I have a set of JBL 4" speakers in the 'For sale' section.Think these are a straight swap for your rears,if your interested.
