2014 Mk2 1.6 petrol High Fuel consumption!!!! Please Help!!!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! I'm a new owner of a 2014 MKII 1.6 16v Fabia. The car has 76.000km and I bought it just before one week. I leave in Doha, Qatar and i have already a 2008 Octavia 1.8 TSi back in my home country Greece. A car that i realy love and trust!!! That was the reasin why I selected to buy a Fabia here.

My first week with the car was very good, I'm already in Love with the car BUT....... the fuel consumption is really really high. I bearly managed to have 250km with a full tank!!!

I'm trying to find the reason, that's why I need your help! Early in the mornings when the weather is not so hot (32 C, 6 o clock in the morning! ) I see on the dushboard a blue temprature light that it seems to inform me that the coolant temprature is low. After some minutes the light goes out. I mention this only for you to know if it has something to do with the consumption. The version of my Fabia is really basic and I only have a small MaxiDot and nothing else in order to help see any other problems.

Any help or advice is more than welcome!!!!

Is your car a manual or Automatic/ tiptronic or a DSG?

So no problems with the coolant light, that is doing what it should even in Qatar it needs to get to operating temp and then no blue light.

So has the car got a nice clean air filter in it,

and then have the spark plugs been checked for condition and gap?

@Offski my car Automatic/tiptronic. I haven't checked for the air filter and the spark plugs. Actually I was wondering when these cars change spark plugs. I'll check and I 'll let you know!

Air filter would be the first thing to check.

64.000 km might well be Manufacturers guidelines for spark plug replacement, but where your car is that could well be advised to be sooner.

When were the cars like yours built, and in which country.    What is the octane of the gasoline there?

The gasoline here is 93 octane, My car has Gulf specs my vin number is the following TMBED4NC6E3990033 if it can help you.

Sorry i know nothing about them other than they are not very economic on short runs, but then your car is up to temp quick,

so that should not be an issue.

So no idea what oil you have in, or any service consumables conditions.   Service the car would be the best plan.

Engine, brakes and inspect all.

A small UPDATE! I checked the air filter and it was really dirty. I ordered a new one and I'm waiting to come next week. I cleaned the old air filter with some air pressure and..... the car managed to cover 370 km with a full tank!!!!  I assume if I will replace the air filter with a new one and change the plugs, I will manage to have better consumption.

All the above is with the AC working in full all the time!
