Coolant for 4WD 190 TDi DSG?

Featured Replies

Sorry for asking a daft question that I should be able to answer myself, but I'm in Mexico and my Skoda is home in Scotland. Wife has phoned me to say that the coolant low level alarm came on yesterday and she's had a look and thinks the coolant is below the minimum level.

So the question is -  what coolant do I need? I'm hoping to order it online so it's there when i get home and I can use the car again immediately

And a follow-up question - is this normal? Car is a year old and has done about 14,000 miles. It's a long time since I've had a car that needed coolant added between services, I'm a bit concerned as to where it might be going.

G13 I believe. It should be printed on the expansion tank.

Mix is about 50:50 with clean water if using concentrate.

Yes, G13.

I ordered from here, delivery was very quick, £11.99 delivered to my door...

Always buy genuine. It's pre-mixed so you literally open the cap and pour it in to the MAX line.

If the MAX line was the Fill to this level line it would say 'Fill to this level.

Filling to the top of the line on the arrow can be simply clever and then see if it stays there after heated to Normal Running temp then cooled again.

As it is have the driver monitor the Coolant after they do top up and see where it 'sets it's own level at,  and watch that does not drop.

If it does have it checked out to find what the fault is.

Hopefully not already water pump failures with Kodiaq.

It's a common feature on a lot of VAG cars, they seem to arrive with free of charge air locks, which over time work their way out of the system dropping the coolant level.

I've topped mine up, roughly 3,000 miles from new, and it's remained rock solid ever since. A few similar queries specific to the Kodiaq have been raised on other sites.

It has been occurring since Adam was a boy and VW's went from Air Cooled to Liquid Coolants.

Vorsprung Durch Technik.   No way Jose!

My 190 TDi needed the coolant topping up at around 6000 miles. It’s just dropping below the LOW mark again at 14000 miles, so I’m going to speak to the dealer about it as it doesn’t seem right to be using so much coolant. The only time I’ve ever had to touch the coolant on other cars is when they had a radiator leak or head gasket failure.

Thanks for the tip- came next day and I used about a half litre to fill back to the Max line. Will keep an eye on it now to see if it drops again.

Hi my is doing the same what did the dealers say mine is 190ps TDI edition

Best get the car fixed.  Something is wrong with it.    Pity Dealership staff never seem to care.

As mentioned in this thread (and several other non-Kodiaq VAG threads/ forums), the dropping coolant level on new cars is 'relatively' common due to airlocks that release as the car is driven.

If you visit the dealer they'll pressure test it and top it up for you for free. Or, as suggested further up, buy your own G13 coolant and do it yourself for a smidge over a tenner.

A visit to the dealer is never quick or easy so I topped up my own. It hasn't dropped again since.

The dealer had the car for the day, pressure tested it and topped it up. They couldn’t find a leak and it’s since done a further 8k miles without using any more coolant, so hopefully it’s fine.
