OEM Mk1 Xenons

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm new here (well I'm not, but I actually own a Skoda now and not just have one as a company car!) and I have bought a Mk1 vRS Estate.

I was wondering if anyone on here (preferably in the South East) has fitted OEM Xenons to a Mk1 using the 'bodge' method of using an aftermarket Xenon kit with the OEM Xenon units. I have found a few threads, but no real guides and I am fairly useless with wiring (anymore than +ve and -ve and I'm lost).

Thanks in advance,

Max

I’ve fitted factory xenons to mine and adapted the halogen wiring inside the light to use the halogen headlight adjuster. It’s handy if you have a set of xenons and halogens to use to do the adaption. You will also need aftermarket ballasts to run them too. If you were close to South Wales I would have done it for you if you have the parts.

Ooh, excellent. All I need is someone that has done it that is still on here as many of the threads I have found are old!

I know the motors are different - did you swap these? I have both sets of lights - xenons from a donor car and the factory lights on the car. I just need to figure out which xenon kit to buy (may buy an entire kit as the bulbs are likely old).

Thanks for the reply!

Yes you will need to swap over the motors, build brackets for them, and cut and splice wires and also use the adjuster cups from the old lights. You ideally need another set of standard lights as it can take a while. I will send you a pm with info.

I have just converted my MK2 halogen light units to xenon HID's and it was a really easy quick and very neat job, as the headlights come out incredibly easily I could do the adaptation on the workbench, one hole cut with a holesaw for the wiring grommet, most of the wiring is inside the headlight unit, the ballasts attached to the back of the clip on bulb cover with one screw and one tiewrap and look really neat, the rest of the wiring and connectors neatened up with another tiewrap.

Took 10 minutes to do the first one and 5 for the second, once installed most is hidden and the ballasts look like factory fit, I can disconnect it and refit the original halogen bulbs in a couple of minutes at the roadside if need be, the OEM headlight levelling motors work fine and the light output is superb and nobody has flashed me.

The best €30 punt that I have ever taken, thankyou AliExpress!!!
