H7 bulbs round 2

Featured Replies

last winter i decided to upgrade the main lights and bottled out considering the apparent awkwardness of fitting

but after a horrific drive through the night last february from burnham on sea to bristol airport in wet weather on the A38 through some twisty and badly lit roads...watching my low low K value original bulbs tempt me off the road at times!!

i will now do the necessary and upgrade....i guess my oem bulbs are 55W but have low K temp output..sort of off white and orangey in the wet:-

the new ones will have to have extra apparent output as a percentage and a "whiter" high value K output colour

starting off

i saw... H7 OSRAM Night Breaker Laser 150% Next Generation 12V 55W (Pair)...£26.40 on the internet...

they are Xenon gas so seem to be "regular" bulb technology...avoiding the LED route

i just want to fit them exactly as the existing bulbs...which could be spare for an emergency

all help welcome and thanks in advance

geof

Hi mrcrow.    Over the years I have tried various upgraded H7 bulbs, Osram Night breaker, Phillips ex-treme etc. Generally I got some good improvement over standard ones, but these upgraded bulbs are known to not last that long, as I found out. I usually got between 1year or maybe 18months. The upgraded bulbs I have fitted now are RING xenon 150, advertised as not having the usual problem of a short life. So far they have lasted around 15months, so can't comment on their long life just yet. What I can state with confidence, is they are far better than the standard bulbs, I even think they are just about the best upgraded bulbs so far for performance.

Just an update on the above statement on the Ring bulbs. Although they are in my opinion a great bulb for extra light output, they don't really last that much longer than other upgraded bulbs. Just had one blow today. Mind you, I like them so much, I have fitted another set of Ring  H7 bulbs to replace them.

I am near the countryside and do at least 20k miles a year. Speed bumps, I also go over slowly, especially with the firm suspension of my VRS. All these upgraded bulbs do not last long, but they are worth it in my opinion for the improved performance over standard ones. I was just hoping according to the Ring adds, these ones would last at least 2 years. Nearly got there mind.
