Irritating noise

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a really irritating noise in my 2016 Yeti 1.4 DSG. When i drive slow in cities below 20-30 km/h, i get a generator/alternator whine thru the heaterfan?! The sound follows the revs of the car and sounds like an old generator noise you could get from car stereos in the eighties.  At first i panicked and thought the gearbox was on the verge of breaking so i turned of the blower to "hear" it better and the noise stopped... Has anyone had this problem more than me and have any ideas where i should start to try and fix the problem.

I get a similar-ish(?) noise, though I don't know where it comes from. It happens about one journey a month, & seems in my mind, to be as if something is recharging?

Probably a noisy heater fan. One of my fabias has an incredibly noisy whiny fan.

The problem is that the noise follows the engine rpm and not the fan speed? If it was the fan the noise should get "louder" with higher fan speed.

Could be alternator bearings?  Switching the blower off reduces the load on the alternator.

A/c compressor low on gas. They then are very noisy. Turn off fan and the compressor is disengaged.

Turning off a/c (econ setting) will similarly turn the compressor off.
