Leaking coolant - possibly an EGR Cooler leak (vRS TDi)

Featured Replies

2014 Octavia vRS TDi

A small volume of coolant has been leaking from the cooling system over time and it looks like it is most likely the EGR cooler that's at fault. When the car is fully warmed up, hard acceleration results in a plume of white smoke from the exhaust. This only recurs after a further period of driving when I assume enough coolant has leaked in to the combustion system to cause steam in the exhaust to be visible again.

Is there an easy way to disable the EGR valve and stop the flow of coolant to the cooler to absolutely determine that this is where the fault is?

Hello.

Some (lot) of this cars have problems with EGR. In some cases they were changed under warranty (you can check that at your dealer if your car have recall).

EGR is under the turbo (at firewall) so is not the easy access.

I also have that issue. Right now the engine is out and we are waiting for new parts...

hope that help.

Greetings.
