Fabia MK1 2004 rear wiper, rear lights and boot issue

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a Fabia MK1 2004 and the rear wiper, rear lights and boot doesn't work. Any help?

@panagiotis - You have an electrical problem or several. How you expect anyone to get further without a more detailed description, including body style and trim level I have no idea.

Well, I correct my post. It's a 2004 1.4 16V 5 door Fabia. Only the boot doesn't work. It stays locked. There is no power at the boot locking motor and at the tailgate handle release switch. I saw somewhere that the boot lock cables go to the electrical system control unit. Where is it located and how it looks like?

@panagiotis - I'm still guessing a bit, but if the boot stays locked, due to no power, that could be a broken cable at the boot hinge (I think left-hand). Similarly with the rear wiper, the HRW and the number plate lights.

Does sound like a wiring issue in the tailigate wiring harness or the connection point in the left rear.

I checked the boot lock wires at the boot hinge and they are not broken. The wires come to the electrical system control unit.  You know where is that located and how it looks like?

There is only one connection point in the left rear but the boot lock wires don't go in it.

Do you drive a left hand drive car? If so this image needs mirroring. It will be above and to the left of your brake pedal.

Ignore the blue markings on the image, they were added for some other question.

Yes, it's a left hand drive car. So, this is the electrical system control unit or the comfort or convenience control module or it's the same thing?

Central Convenience module is a different thing, nearer to the centreline of the car, on yours this is above the accelerator pedal. Smaller unit.

Rear lid locking motor is powered via fuse 31 and a relay inside the electrical system control unit, a green/red wire on pin 5 of connector XP1.

The release button goes to connector XS5, pin 6 with a red/green wire.

The microswitch in the lock goes to XS5, pin 3 on a brown/black wire.

One connection point, all of the tailagte wiring comes through a goup of connectors.

However the solenoid is mounted in the car not in the tailgate.

The boot lock wires come to the one above the accelerator pedal right? The electrical system control unit. The central convenience module you know what it controls?

Remote central locking mainly.

Yes, I saw in a wiring diagram that all boot locks come to the electrical control unit.

The wires I described in my last post all go to the control unit I photographed above the accelerator pedal of my right hand drive car, so will be above the clutch pedal of yours.

The central convenience unit above your accelerator pedal (but above clutch pedal on RHD cars) deals with the locks systems of all the other doors.

Ok, I see. That's only for the central locking except boot locking. Thanks.

Ok, I got it. Thanks a lot for your answers my friend.

It still takes the signal from the key for boot operation.

It doesn't work at all. Either from the key fob. There's no power at the boot locking motor and at the tailgate handle release switch, I didn't find any wire damaged or broken so I believe that the problem is in the electrical control unit.

Are they not a switched earth?

I just don't have power at the 2 wire connector of the tailgate handle release switch and at the 4 wire connector of the boot locking motor but I have power at the 2 wire connector of the central locking switch (in tailgate lock).
