Change Bolero

Featured Replies

Hi friends!! Im new here and im spanish, so first of all, sorry for my english.... i like to change my Bolero and achieve a Columbus to upgrade my Octi. I know there are probably more than one forum but its not easy for me to get everyone, so i pray for your help!!

My Octi is a MKIII of 2013 and i suppose its not easy but i want to know if its possible. Thank you so much to everyone!!!

Possible it is, but also very costly - there are a few threads about people who have done it, but here is the short one:

- You need to buy a MIB2 unit for the glovebox

- You need to buy a Columbus screen

- You need to fit everything and take it to a Skoda dealership for them to remove Component protection

- You need to remove the glovebox MIB2 unit and send it to be coded (there seems to be a fellow in Poland that most people are using...)

All this will cost near-ish to €1000...

...or you just get a Pioneer or Alpine unit, since both have custom solutions specifically for the Octavia.

BTW, read on the differences between MIB1 (which you have...) and MIB2 - most outstanding being that MIB2 supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Skoda's own navigation is a bit rubbish, to be honest. I have the sister car/system on a Leon and never use it, preferring to use Waze via Android Auto.

Ok Jaco2k, i understand you! I have already found a mechanical workshop and he told me that they can do it for 790 euros but i dont really trust this way. In spanish threads always talk about english threads about this kind of changes. By the way, one more question, the columbus screen could work with my MIB1 although i dont have gps?? Only a bigger screen?? Thank you so so much

Nope - you would need an Amundsen MIB1, I think, due to resolution.

A few people here have done the same change you are asking about, so maybe they will jump in and comment.

I also had the Bolero MIB1 and thought it was crap.

I now have the equivalent to Columbus MIB2 on my Seat and the difference in sound and speed of processing is night and day, plus the extra features.

Buena sorte para ti! ;)

Tbank you so much my friend!! I'll try to find these briskodians who have done this change. It has been a pleasaure Jaco2k!!!

Buenas tardes :) I have changed my Bolero MIB1 to Amundsen MIB2 for cost and spec reasons (I didn’t need a CD drive, HDD, LTE connection etc from the Columbus and Amundsen can still run the 8 inch screen) and the details on this can be found here on my thread

and there’s a lot of good info on this thread here

Espero que ayude :)

im really surprised i have an 8" FL flat screen but no one seems to want it? money must be tight coming up to christmas.

I would chuck it on eBay tbh, a good price under the joker breakers yards would probably sell it easily. I have been tempted I admit, but I do slightly prefer my Columbus screen for a few reasons. The FL screen is great though and I’d be surprised if you haven’t sold it soon!

On my Seat, I have the equivalent of the pre-FL screen and I had a brand new Golf as a courtesy car that had the equivalent of the FL screen - I prefer my screen... The new screens are glossy and as such, reflections and fingerprints are an issue. Akso, the contrast didn't seem as good.

What I did like on the newer screens is that the resolution somehow looks crisper and less aliased, but maybe that is just some placebo :)

ive fitted the protector which has anti glare and a coating that doesnt show any finger prints at all. ;), and there's no comparison to the actual response of the standard screens and this Fl, the FL wins hands down all day every day. it just feels so much better
