Winter Tyres and Chris Knott

Hi, I'm often asked on club forums (and Facebook groups) about switching to winter wheels/tyres and whether an insurer will charge extra if you do.

As it's getting to that time of year again I thought I'd just reassure any Chris Knott clients that the insurers we use don't usually charge for this. However, if you are thinking of swapping your wheels we do have to log when you make the switch and then again when you go back to normal - so please let us know on 0800 819 9320.

Thanks,
Nick

FEEDBACK

"Been with them for years now. I check about every year but so far the best price, understanding of simple mods / winter wheels and cust service has been there every time. Very happy so far." Joanna Cole, New Mini Scotland

"Excellent service when arranging insurance for 2 cars. As much as possible is done by email which is efficient..." Julian P, TrustPilot

"Quick, simple and always matching prices with trustworthy insurances." Carla, TrustPilot

"First class service. Cannot fault any of the service given, highly recommended." Paul H, TrustPilot

"Continuing my annual insurance search, Chris Knott have beaten my (already cheap) renewal by 10% but I’m getting some really outrageous quotes. Most north of £500 and a few into 4 figures!" Steve Ingall, Alfabook

Why do you have to log with you when the wheels / tyres are changed.

Is this the same with all tyres / wheels of the correct load and speed rating and type approved wheels and size?

Or is this about non standard factory fit or dealer option wheels?

Road legal wheels and tyres in the UK are just that, so what is the issue with Chris Knott or your underwriters.

When do they consider the weather that might be correct for All Weather Tyres, All Terrain Tyres, All Season Tyres or Summer Tyres.

I think it's more about the rims. If you tell us you've swapped the wheels over there's no comeback from the insurer if something does happen and you're found to have non-original wheels on.

Easy to be clear on that to those holding policies with you.

'You must inform us with a declaration any time you fit non standard fit wheels.'  For your own sake and valid insurance.

Reason being that 'Fitting new tyres that are legal' happens every day of the year all around the UK because tyres wear out or are maybe the wrong tyres for a season.

Those fitting better tyres for UK conditions than OEM that cars come with should maybe get discounts on insurance'.  Be encouraged to fit safer tyres than ECO ones. 'Simply Clever'.

So if you had 19" OE rims on an Octavia MKIII Vrs ( OE from the Factory ) but then decided that they weren't for you so you dropped to 18" rims that were OE on an Octavia MKIII Vrs  ( different wheel option from the Factory ) there could be a problem with your insurance if any thing happened.  These 18" rims are " Not as supplied " as the car actually came with 19" rims.
