Brake pads Mk 2 1.4 Tdi

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

First post and already asking for help.  Just bought pads to do this weekend, watched this video, which was helpful. My issue is, the pads I have been supplied have piston locators (5.25 in the vid) on all 4. I made a call to the supplier (GSF) who inform me they are correct for my chassis. Has anyone else come across this? Do I cut them off or leave them to rot?

If your car has the 256mm front discs, that calliper is slightly different and needs these spring lugs to engage into the slotted hole cut out on the calliper on the side opposite the piston end.

Edit:- just one other thing to check, does your car has FS111 moulded into the outer face of the callipers, or has your callipers got that anti rattle spring and calliper that is exactly the same as shown in that video?  Also, don't apply any brake grease to the threads of the calliper slide bolts, just to the area that slides within the rubber bush.

That video is for larger disc version probably vrs.

Standard disc setup is FSIII caliper (the letters FSIII are cast into the caliper), 256 mm discs. The pads look like this

Important 2 points!

1. Check on the passenger side (UK) of your car is fitted with a wear sensor, it will have a wire coming out of the front of the inner pad and connected to a socket on the top of the hub. If it has, you need the pad version with the wear sensor. If the set you bought came with a wear sensor (sometimes sold as universal) but your car doesn't need it, you can simply snip it off.

2. On the picture you will notice one pad (actually 2) has a silver clip, the other pair have a black clip. The silver clips are slightly larger than the black ones. The larger clips are the inner pads that clip into the pistons. The slightly smaller ones are the outer pads and clip into the caliper. Other brands may not have different coloured clips, but the clip sizes/shape will still be slightly different inner/ outer.
