Electrical problems with Octavia 2004

Featured Replies

Whatsup guys! I own a 2004 Octavia and recently I have had a few electrical issues, especially with the power windows and power door locks. Basically they have been living their own life and the windows keep opening even after the car is turned off. Anyone familiar with this issue and how to fix it? Could it just be a jammed wire? Btw it is not a probem with the fuse, I already checked that!

I was going to suggest it could be wear in the wiring from the door to the body given the age of the car however the windows do not operate with the ignition off.

I believe it could be the comfort module that is faulty or has a poor connection, again the age of the car would suggest oxidised connectors etc.

Having the car scanned would probably point you in the right direction or at least give you more to go on.

The windows do operate for 10 mins withe ignition off unless you open a front door.

From my handbook:-

"● After switching the ignition off, it is still possible to open or close the windows
for a further 10 minutes. During this time the automatic closing and opening functions
of the window will operate. The power windows are switched off completely
once you open the driver or front passenger door."

It would be worth checking the wiring in the door to body snake for damaged wiring. Quite common on early or high mileage models.

Some cars with rain sensors have auto close windows if rain detected when locked.

Right, how do I gain access these wiring systems, is it hidden behind a panel of some sorts?

That explains it, thanks! In the case of poor connection or oxidized connectors what would be the way forwards?

Not if the key is removed from the ignition.

Are you sure? As I have gathered from a couple of internat posts it seems like cars equipped with EVIC wil let you operate the car windows (and a couple of other different features) for 45 seconds, but if your car has EVIC it will be operational for 10min. According to the sources, this applies when the key has been completely removed from the ignition. Correct me if Im wrong!
