MY 14 Diesel Skoda is starting very weak and its still on its original battery. 

 

I had been maintaining cars for years and replaced many batteries on much old cars. 

 

With the newer vehicles can the battery be changed the same the same way just swop them out or do you need to do anything special. 

 

Any help & advice would be great.

If you don't tell the battery management system that you have changed the battery using a diagnostic tool such as VCDS then you could experience problems with the start/stop and/or strange effects as some electrical loads get turned off to protect what the battery management system thinks is an old battery in poor condition.

 

On the Octavia 3 the battery management system is a slave of the CAN Gateway at address 19, and provided you fit the same type and capacity battery all you need to change is the Battery Serial Number - it doesn't matter what you change it to so long as it's different.

You'll probably find there is a member close to you who has VCDS or similar and could do the coding in return for beer tokens?
