Question about LED AFS on octavia

Featured Replies

Looking at buying a New Octavia L&K, but I was out driving a octavia Style and the only light assist it had was dipping up and down on oncoming traffic. They didn't swivel on country roads, a bit annoying. I have been used to this since I bought Passat back in 2005. And when googling I find a Skode website in Australia that says that the headlight swivel 15 degrees. So why didn't the demo car do this? Yes it has the fog cornering function at low speeds. These LED are not Even close to the perfoemance of the Mercedes Multibeam headlights. But I can't afford it and I have to be reasonable this time If this lead up to a purchase this Will be my first Skoda

Did the Style have the LEDs? You wouldn’t be the first to say they didn’t see the matrix lights power up round corners very well. The swivel function is a Xenon thing as the projectors swivel and it’s quite noticeable in Sport mode,  but when I had an Octy with the LEDs for a few days I couldn’t see as well as on my car. Annoyingly the Skoda’s don’t have the intelligent lights like Golf’s etc that cut a beam out for oncoming traffic etc.

Yes the style had LED, but on start opp they didn't do more than up and down on the function test. But I have seen videos of the swivel out to the side

The LED headlights don't move horizontally like the Bi-Xenon units do for cornering. With the LEDs there are some additional LEDs which light up and throw light at a different angle once the steering wheel is a certain amount off centre.

Looking at the Skoda Australia site, the images look the same LED units as we get here, whilst it says it swivels the beam, I think it's just using the additional LEDs, the same as we get here.

They can change beam pattern as shown here -

They don't swivel or bend or anything like that though.

Be interesting to see the videos of them moving side to side that you say you've seen - I suspect these are actually videos of the old Xenons.

I had AFS Xenon on the Octavia and was bummed to lose them going into the Leon LEDs, but the seller said to me "Why you think you would need that? The spread on the LEDs is much wider!"

To be honest, I haven't missed it. Not sure about the LEDs on the Octavia, but I assume they will be the same.

This Page clearly says the lights swivel 15 degrees. Its not saying that the 15 degree illumination comes from a second led next to low beam prism

Unless they're using incorrect stock pictures, you can see the additional 'turning' LED, I can't find anything to suggest the Australian Market get a different type of LED unit that swivels.

On the 245 the adaptive bit is wider spread of light in urban areas at lower speeds to pick up cyclists and pedestrians and as the speed increases out of town the spread of light is projected further forward. Another useful function is when you go across to Europe (BREXIT) the lights automatically adapt to point to the right (left handed in the UK) so no need for beam adaptor lenses. This uses the Sat Nav so that the car realises you are driving on the wrong side of the road (RIGHT).:o

What I can see in this video is that in deepest corners this light is very active. It also at one point on intersection switched off cornering light when the car crossed the road.

It does as described and seems quite "intelligent". Video is long and you can see how it adapts the shape of illuminated area accordingly.
