Can't get the paint matched? what to do?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I had little bit scratches and dent on the front left corner of the bumper. I got a regular guy who does body work/paint for my car..well, I took my car to him and also asked him if he can fix a very small stone chip on the rear left side door..he said, he has to paint the whole door..anyway, to cut the long story short..he painted the door thrice now and still the colour comes bit whitish for the door and bumper which really stands out from the distance.  I bought the last paint from Halfords using the colour code which is LQ5X-G0G0, look at the paint at the picture.

So now the guy saying that he needs to paint the whole left side of the car to blend the colour which will cost me lots of money..

guys, have you ever had this problem? is there any tricks to buy the correct shade of the paint?

There is. Don't buy your paint form Halfords. Go to a real car refinishing suppliers who will know what they are doing, at Halfords you get a spotty teenager at best.

A good painter will also check the colour before using it and tint it slightly if necessary plus they will always blow the new paint onto adjacent panels to avoid any obvious difference.

As an example a body shop local to us offers 2 services, the first is simply paint the damaged/new panel with no guarantee of colour match. For a small amount extra they blow paint onto adjacent panels and guarantee a match. When they repaired to doors on dads Micra in addition to the doors they had to paint the front wing, rear wing, part of both bumpers, part of the tailgate, bonnet and roof to guarantee a perfect match, and they were as good as their word, totally undetectable (and it was Silver - a difficult colour to get right).
