Alarm

Featured Replies

Hi all I had a aftermarket towbar fit and electrics now my question is why doesn't my alarm go off when I disconnected the electrics off the car I heard that it is meant to?

If your alarm doesn’t go off when you unplug the caravan or trailer, then the towbar hasn’t been coded properly or at all, meaning safety systems will be bypassed. Take it back to the installer and ask for it to be coded correctly. Copied from another post.

“A properly coded trailer set-up should:

Disable the parking sensors

Disable the car's foglight

Enable the trailer stability programme

Enable trailer bulb failure warning

Enable trailer theft alarm activation

Show a picture of a connected trailer on the radio screen when reversing”

As Kenny has said, it hasn’t been coded correctly... if at all, it may even have been wired with  universal kit scotch locked onto your wiring loom :o

I paid for the proper wiring and I get the trailor showing on the screen it disables the parking sensors front assist and blind spot I just tested to see if the alarm went off and it didn't how do I know the trailer stability program is working?

Was the car locked when you tested it?

Yea I left it for 5 mins too

Does the trailer have LED lights (which won’t allow the alarm to detect the trailer)?

Were LED lights on cars/caravans even a thing 14 years ago?

I doubt it, no. There does seem to be a trend of upgrading incandescent clusters with the latest raft of readily available LED bulbs though.

No deffo doesn't

It's got to be a coding issue then?
