Please, should this be secured - or not ?

Featured Replies

Picture is inside the bonnet of a Fabia Colour Edition MK3 2016.

Should A (plastic with the Fan attached to it) be fastened to the top piece B ?

The plastic is fastened securely about halfway down on each side but moves and rattles about quite a bit at the top and I wondered if it should be attached at the top (somewhere along B).

Any help appreciated.

All I can say is that my older daughter's late 2009 Ibiza with the 1.4 16V 86PS petrol engine sounds to be very much like your Fabia, some thing a bit floppy bit not causing any trouble probably like that from new.

Is that the source of your noise or are you not keithchesterfield1?

Radiators are NOT normally bolted on tight as they need to allow for heat expansion.

They can be located by rubber bushes only.

From my experience of this on my daughter's Ibiza, it is the fact that there is a lot of freedom of movement at the top, normally the top is well enough secured as to not have a lot of freedom of movement, while the bottom typically just has pegs that loosely get located into rubber donuts.

AGFalco – yes, it is the same problem – I had trouble getting on this forum some time ago and rejoined with a slightly different moniker.

The top of A does move around a lot and I thought it might be the original knocking problem.

But as you all say it should not be fastened tightly and that beggers up my theory.

The original knocking noise has been heard by both of us since the Dealer said it was okay and in the New Year I will take the car to a different Dealer and see what they say.

Have a Happy Christmas and New Year

Make a note of when you hear the noise.

Things like:-

Have you just started your journey?

Have you travelled for a longer distance?

At what speed?

Are you accelerating, holding speed, braking and/or cornering?

Where is the noise coming from, can you here it outside the car?

And come back to us please.

Thanks AG Falco
