Octavia: how to change the brake light switch

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

New to Skodas (about 4 months...) and new to the forum, so "hello". I thought that I would share with you this guide that I found for changing the brake light swtich on my 2000 Octavia.

I couldn't find anything here, but a VW Golf website did the job. Find it here...

Hello,

My Fabia also suffered from a faulty brake light switch (bulbs and fuse okay), I purchased a new switch from my dealer (around £7), followed the excellent VW Golf website guide as quoted by Simon Saunders - thanks, a fairly straight forward task - even the trim was easy to remove/refit. Brake lights now work and the EPC light goes out once engine is running.

Also has anybody experienced problems with the anti roll bar? My Fabia started making a knocking noise from the front suspension. After visiting my dealer this turned out to be a failed anti roll bar bush, unfortunately the bush is an integral part of the bar and a new anti roll bar was required at the cost of around £150! Skoda did return the cost of the parts though.

And finally I suspect my reversing light switch has failed (bulbs and fuse okay), does anybody have any tips on where it is located (gearbox housing) and how to replace it?

Thanks

Glad you are getting things sorted.

Lummox recently posted some pics of the ARB issue.

I have a copy of the Skoda technical bulletin about the Brake Light Switch on my website if you want any more info.

Hi all,

I have a 2002 Octavia VRS and found that all brake lights were out yesterday. :( I have changed both fuses and bulbs without success. SO I think the next plan of action will be a switch after reading this.

tried this evening to adjust the switch and now the light stays on all the time. :( I will have to order a new one I think. grrrrrrrr

About a tenner iirc

Not too bad really

I had similar problems with my '53 octavia. The switch just needed a clean. Make sure the switch is properly installed to test it. The lights will be on

constantly if tested out of the bracket because it needs to be twisted into the bracket which aligns the contacts correctly. Shoot the designer !
