Diff failure 2015 yeti se diesel

Hi Folks My 2015 se yeti diesel with only 25,000 mls  and only owned by me for  less than 3 months has a bearing in the diff unit go!!!!!.

At the moment it is with the dealer being fixed under Guarantee  . Plus also the rear wiper motor changed for the second time 

Now Have I just been unlucky or are these common problems 

I am more than a little concerned that such a new low mileage car is having such serious problems . I went to a Skoda Main agent  purchasing a skoda approved used car for piece of mind  as My old car a 2001 Toyota Rav 4  was starting to show its age  I am now beginning  to think I have made a mistake .

Any thoughts opinions etc on this ??

Should have stuck with Toyota much more reliable ;)

It's bad luck with the diff, the rear wiper motor is a common problem . 

I've been involved with Yeti's for more than 7 years and I think that is the first diff I have heard that has had a problem.
Don't worry about it.

Defenderben Fair  comment about the Toyota  BUT I was only getting high 30's to the gallon  and Rtax of £265 p/y

Haven’t heard of the yeti diff unit problem before and as good as a yeti might me don’t expect the same reliability as a Toyota RAV4.ive owned both the yeti is a better drive and more economical BUT I felt the rav was more reliable in the long term.

TBH my military humour kicked in.

 

Most manufactures have their fair share of issues unless your Honda :) then they make good reliable boring old people’s cars or go to the other extreme end of the scale with the later Civic type R’s. 

 

As said  by others the rear wiper motor is common but not having a diff go pop; at least it’s being done under warranty, just a spot of bad luck.

If it were me and a third thing goes wrong in a short space of time though, I would get rid as it could be a Friday car ;)

 

Hope it’s fixed soon.

Hi Guys need some comments feeling /opinions My Yeti see above sorry tale is still at the main dealers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 I took it in with the droning noise on Dec 12th They as stated above diagnosed a Diff unit bearing . I have just called in to the dealer To find out what is happening they NOW tell they have rebuilt the diff unit replacing the bearing put the gearbox back in the Yeti and it is still the same .

They are supposed to be waiting for Skoda Technical team advising if they should replace the whole gearbox and expect a reply tomorrow.

 Now I have only had this car since late October and it has been with them since the 12th Dec   

I am a patient person but this is testing me any thoughts opinions would be welcome as HOPEFULLY they will contact me tomorrow and I would like to be armed with some information as to how I stand on this .

It caan be really helpful if members atleast give a rough idea of where they are, especially as another member may be able to recommend a different dealer.

 

As to your "problems", exactly what model of Yeti do you have? There have been a few reports of problems with some Yetis and their dual mass flywheels causing problems. Unfortunately you don't know the history of your car before you bought it, but atleast it is under warranty.

 The 2015 diesel SE outdoor previously  was a motobility  car  and I purchased it from Blade Skoda Gloucester .As an aproved used Skoda so I do have a 12mth 

warranty with it .

 I am just disappointed having such a serious failure on a vehicle that is only just over 3 yrs old and has only done 25,000mls  I do like the Yeti  it is a nice vehicle to drive  and very economical so I will be reluctant to give up on it so soon But I am beginning to wonder when it will be fixed and will this then be a trouble free car 

Fingers crossed touching a piece of wood and lucking for a rabbits foot

Our experience with a motability Ford is that they can be very badly damaged by poor driving technique in a low mileage. My sons car needed the gearbox out to replace the clutch pack at 22k, just after he bought it. Fortunately covered by the warranty.

TYpically they do a small mileage, so lots of short trips, and the drivers skills may be impaired by their medical issues.

Or never driven by anyone with a disability but just 'Named Drivers' that might or might not be family members.

Or could have had hand controls or other conversions done that sometimes mess up braking and clutch or Autobox / DSG functions. (common)

 

I certainly would not buy a Motability Vehicle that i have had.  I am not considering it as i know how i have used it.

Not low mileage or short trips...

 

I have bought and sold Ex Motability cars in the past, and considering Motability is the biggest Group Buyer in the UK, many others buying used cars have had Ex Motability cars as well.

You also have to take into account the low average mileage, and how it was driven. 

 

Regular long runs = good news. 

 

Daily multiple short journeys in stop start traffic = potential of later issues with DPF.

Whch engine, as you haven't stated that? It is worth adding these details to your forum persona as people then don't need to ask you each time. Also adding your location helps.

As others have said, that suggests that the previous owner wasn't the best driver, and doesn't seem that unusual with Motobility cars I'm afraid.
I really wouldn't worry about it once it has been repaired. As I said this isn't not a common failure and certainly not one I have heard of before.

For peace of mind you could get an independent inspection of the vehicle, and/or take an extended warranty out. 

The good news is that this will be covered - so don't fret too much - it should make the car more reliable in the long run hopefully

Sounds familiar! Years ago my parents bought an ex mobility low mileage  Ford Escort as a second car, very limited warranty with it and within a short time it became apparent that the car had a damaged gear box, which needed removed and repaired at some expense. Also the clutch on that car had no bite to it at all, probably a very poor first driver who should have had an automatic gearbox. I didn't drive it often but found it awkward to drive even with the repaired gearbox because of the soggy clutch, which was in complete contrast to the Ford Mondeo Estate that I had which had a wicked clutch which was so stiff it was painful to drive in town driving.
