Tip: Where is the best place to jack the front of an Octavia?

Featured Replies

The jack provided with the vehicle is intendend purely for road side wheel changes and should not be used during DIY mechanic work as it is not very stable.

Trolley jacks are available cheaply from Halfords and other motor factors and even the smallest of these should easily manage to lift an Octavia.

Care needs to be taken to preserve the lip along the bottom edge of the sill. Occasionally some tyre fitters and independent garages cause damage to the sill by placing a jack directly onto this lip. If you wish to jack the car using this area, it it a good idea to use a wooden block to spread the load.

However, there is a more suitable point that can be used to jack the car and is shown here (the image shows the underside of a Fabia but the Octavia has a very similar point):

This point can also be used to sit the car on axle stands although if doing this you obviously can't use it as a jacking point.

Note that the jack supplied with the car will be at near maximum height if you attempt to lift the car high enough to get an axle stand under this point and is therefore not recommended.

Remember to never work under the car if it is supported on a jack alone, even trolley jacks can fail.
