Winter Tyre Compatability for a New Fabia

Featured Replies

My daughter has a new Fabia 1.0 Colour Edition that came with 215/45/16 tyres.

I have a set set of winter tyres from her old Golf that are 195/65/15.

Can i fit these winter tyres to her Fabia ?

Online says pays the total diameter is 1.36 inches greater but I’m struggling to find out if that is ok !

Many thanks.

Regardless of whether they physically fit, there's a fundamental problem as the speedo will underread.  Tread cautiously as you don't want to be illegal.  I'm all for conversion sizes - just not this one.

Thank you.

What do do you mean by “I'm all for conversion sizes - just not this one” ?

Speedo will under read by 5% it seems.

Really you are going too big with those tyres,   But have you put the Golf Wheels and tyres next to the ones on the Fabia to confirm / compare just how much taller?

Are the Golf Wheels 5 x 100 ?

The Golf wheels are 1.36 inches larger diameter and slightly narrower. That doesn’t seem a massive amount to me.

However, I’m taking onboard all the comments !

Thanks.

I know that 15" wheels and 16" are not the same.  I am asking how the Tyres side by side on the wheels look.

& are the Golf wheels the correct stud pattern for the Fabia?

How should we know? All we know about the Golf is that it's @Stretch47 daughter's old car! Off-hand I can think of 3 different bolt patterns it could have, only one of which also fits a current Fabia.

'We' can not know, which is why i asked in the OP's thread the question,

i never asked any 'We's'.

The Golf wheels have 5 bolts and the Fabia wheels have 5 bolts. Fabia not at my location so I can’t comment on a different pattern.

I am presuming that there are different 5 bolt patterns ?

If the patterns are the same then are we any nearer deciding if the 195/65/15 can replace the 215/45/16 ?

Thanks.

The short answer is that the Golf tyres are not suitable. They are not an approved size for the Fabia, which will cause insurance problems and the speedo will under read which may lead to speeding fines. The normal winter tyre size and standard spare for the Fabia is 185/60-15 which will go on the Golf wheels but it is unlikely the PCD (bolt pattern) is correct.

@Stretch47 - A wheel bolt fitting consists of 3 dimensions, for example 5x100ET42. The 5 is the number of bolts (earlier Golfs only have 4 of these, and since you didn't state a year or even mark for the Golf...), the 100 is the Pitch Circle Diameter (PCD) and ET42 gives the wheel offset in the example.

Depending on year/mark either car could have 5x100 or 5x112 and these physically will not bolt up to the other hub.

That's before we get to the question of wheel offset, where we need the ET numbers to determine whether the one set of wheels will rub on the arches of the other car.

We may be able to help if you can supply more details about the year/mark of both cars.

Ok thanks.

The Golf is a 2002 1.9TDI 100. Winter tyres 195/65/15 and the ET on the steel rims is ET38. Also written is 6Jx 15H2 and some more. See photo.

The Fabia is brand new with 215/45/16. It’s a Colour Edition. The standard wheels are 185/60/15. See photo below.

Really appreciate your help.

Here’s a better photo - sorry.

The wheels themselves are actually fine, as they are the same PCD and ET as the Skoda 15" standard wheels, so they will fit. However the tyres ,as said before, are too tall and will cause problems with the speedo reading and possible insurance problems as they are not a recommended fit.

Thank you. Really appreciate you sharing your expertise.

My suggestion is advertise for sale the wheels / tyres on Briskoda and then you daughter gets a set of new All Weather tyres in the correct size and speed rating for her car.

The take off tyres can then be advertised on Briskoda.

The wheels are fine for the Fabia, the tyres are Octavia 2007-12 and Golf size. Get a set of 185/60/15 winter tyres, fit them to the rims and then flog the 195s.
