Hardwiring a dashcam

Featured Replies

Hi all

I'm fitting a dashcam to my Vrs MK2 and would like to hardwire it permanently so it isn't ignition fed as the cam has a 24hr motion sensor function. The hardwire kit has battery protection to ensure the car battery is never drained.

Question is which empty fuse slot should I be using as I'd rather not piggyback? First time working with fuses in the car so would appreciate some expert reassurance!

Many thanks

Do you have an aftermarket HU? If so, you can use the constant 12V wire from this as well. (Among with a small in-wire fuse)

In my car, this saved me some cabling. The dashcam is located behind the mirror, wire goes to the passenger side, behind the glovebox and ends behind the radio (where I have connected it)

Thanks DJ

Ended up testing a few empty slots till I found a non switched supply and used that.

Cabling was a bit of a pain, especially hiding all the excess for the rear cam but got there and all working as it should

Out of interest do you have a pic showing which slot you used? Planning out putting one in mine very soon and I would like it wired the same way

There you go Pods. Number 17 on the fuse layout card. Though not sure if the layout will be exactly the same across all cars.

Watch out for the layout card as mine seems to be back to front. Scratched my head over that one for a bit.

Added bonus was I located the fuse for the headlight cleaning and pulled it so now when I spray the windscreen, my bonnet, wing mirrors and side windows stay soap free
