Cutting out issues

Featured Replies

2008 Skoda Octavia 1.9tdi (BXE engine I think)estate.

One morning car wouldn’t start. AA couldn’t get it started so took it to my usual garage. It started first time when we arrived at the garage. No fault codes showing. The fault was obviously intermittent which meant the garage struggled to find the fault, but after replacing a relay switch, fuel pump in tank (old one refitted later), trying a secondhand engine bay fuse box (original one refitted), getting ECU tested (no fault) eventually found a corroded wire between the fuse box and the ECU which was repaired.

However after the new fuel pump was tried it has developed another fault which the garage has failed to diagnose. When the engine temperature reaches its normal max temperature (90 degrees) the engine hesitates and is underpowered, usually around 2000 to 2200 revs. It has also completely cut out on a couple of occasions when under load and sometimes doesn’t start in the morning. If it cuts out while driving it immediately starts if you drop the clutch and bump it. If it stationary it takes 5-15 seconds cranking it over for it to start and appears to be starved of fuel.

No fault codes showing.

My garage have run out of ideas!

Any help gratefully received.

Have you had the Engine Management Light (EML) or glowplug light illuminate?

Have you checked for fault codes since the initial work, something might now be logged?
