Clutch not releasing

Featured Replies

I bought an 06 Octavia elegance estate from a private dealer right at the start of this year year. Took the car for a test drive and all good. FSH (Skoda), 12 months MOT. The listing also mentioned that a new clutch and flywheel had been fitted by the seller at 88k.

On driving the car home, I pressed the clutch to change down and it didn’t spring back, forcing me to come off a roundabout in neutral. Phoned the dealer and he came out with a truck to tow the car away to be fixed the next Monday morning. The problem was to do with some plastic clips on the pedal that had somehow moved. Clips were either repositioned or replaced (not sure). Tie clips were also used to ensure the clips wouldn’t move again.

Well guess what?! A month on and the same thing has happened again (on exactly the same road!) and I have once again been forced to leave the car on the side of the road while I wait for the dealer to tow it away again (tomorrow, Monday).

In the meantime, does anyone have any ideas why the pedal keeps failing?

I know that the dealer supplied the new clutch and flywheel to the garage where he got it fitted and consequently fixed the first time. However, I suspect that the other components are all original, so could this be the reason?

Is it a 1.9 or 2lt. Try the slave cylinder on the gearbox if 1.9. If I got this the right way around the master is behind the clutch pedal on the bulkhead engine side. I would start with the gearbox side one first.

It’s a 2.0 tdi 140

The slave cylinder on 2.0tdi is internal so its a clutch out job and a bit silly if it wasn't changed with clutch and flywheel.
