Fabia Estate - 1.9PD vs 1.2 TSI 105bhp

Featured Replies

Anybody have experience of having driven both these variants of the Fabia Estate. I know the 1.9PD from my time with one in the Roomster, but was wondering if anyone had experience of both these engines in the Fabia Estate and how they compare in real world driving. I've a friend who lives in the Yorkshire Dales who is set on getting hold of the Fabia Estate and I'm trying to find her one. She's reluctant to go for the TSi due to engine size and less torque compared to the 1,9PD diesel even though both are 105bhp. The appeal of the diesel is the torque (she has a 15 mile daily commute which is literally up hill and down dale on minor roads), no DPF and its know reliability. Problem is that its just getting harder and harder to find a good late low mileage example on a 09/10 plate. The alternative is a much newer TSi - maybe even as new as 64 plate to try and guarentee no timing chain issues. Anybody got any experience or advice? Worth looking for a 1.9PD gem or paying the dosh for a late Mk2 TSi 105? Final question, are we doing the right thing to completely rule out the 1.6 105 diesel unit due to her short commute distance and the fact that this engine seems to be plagued with problems? Any advice or comments appreciated.

Yes you are right to rule out the 1.6. To many glow plug warning lights. I had 3 on mine. Is the TSI timing chain problems only on specific years?

1.9tdi gets my vote. looking on auto trader & ebay there is 1 red 1.9 with 48k and some that are 80k upwards.

There are more 2009 -2010 1.9tdi Octavia than fabia. Might be worth a test drive.

Don't forget the Roomster can be had with the 1.9 PD which may allow more choice.

Yeah, she's not buying the Roomster at the moment, but mine was Fab. Wish I'd kept mine longer now :(
