weird 'window open type' vibration???

Featured Replies

Driving the estate - possibly seems certain roads, or certain speeds it feels like (driving with the window open. (this explanation may just be an estate issue).

I don't know if i'd say possible loose engine mount or something like.

There is no steering wobble and you feel it through the car, not the steering.

It feels like driving on slightly lump road surfaces, but these should be good roads.

It has just passed its mot, requiring only a front spring, with new drop link and top mount, but the issue was present before this. The other front spring was replaced last year.

I forgot to ask the garage to take it for a test drive but i feel that it would not show unless they drove a good distance anyway.

Any thoughts please.......Edit....so particularly what the mot would / wouldn't (may / may not) show up.

Just passed mot, meaning i'm assuming no wheel bearing or suspension issues.

Make sure your vents are open

Wheel weight(s) escaped from rear wheel(s) leading to unbalanced wheel vibration.

^^^that could make sense as i know i need new rears as are showing cracks in the walls

If you get the rear wheels balanced ask them to check that the tyres are still round.

Thanks AG Falco

It seems this was the case / cause Mac. Good call.

I took the wheels off to check them over as to the mot advisory, and noticed that a number of weights had fallen off of one wheel.

New tyres were needed anyway, and although he forgot to balance them (honest) first off, as he was just putting them back on i asked him if they had balanced nicely, as i noticed they had fallen off previously, and he realised he hadn't done them and took them back inside.

I had cleaned the alloys inside so any new weights would stick better but i think he used a wire wheel on them anyway to clean them a bit better first.

Took the car for a good run today as not really used it much recently and it does seem problem sorted.

Cheers

Goodo.
