advice on buying '11 Fabia vRS 1.4TSI

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Been weighing up some sizeable cars and came across a Fabia vRs estate 2011 1.4TSI. It ticks the boxes for performance and size and not bad looking either!

Immediately seeing a lot of negative posts for the CAVE engine which I assume this is, given the year. Guy who is selling took as px but full service history and will check who that was with tomorrow. Just want to know what checks I can perform to see if there are any dreaded engine issues (I have compression test kit) and does this failure stem from the spark plugs?

This is a 2011 Fabia vRS S-A 1.4 TSI MJ11 DRZ. DSG, 72k miles. MOT's are clean bar some tyres and suspension mounts from couple years ago.

Appreciate any advice as this is a private sale so doesn't benefit from a warranty (which might be a deal breaker for me)

Thanks,

Hi Chatlow, for some reason the above car is coming up as a diesel on the governments MOT checker website however in the advert on gumtree it’s clearly a petrol 1.4tsi vRS might just be a typo but seems odd. Ive owned a vRS from new since 2011 (not the faster estate however lol) theirs many horror stories about these cars and it’s a cave engine lottery I’m afraid main thing is do your homework probably that bit more than other cars. Looking at the ad the previous owner has made a few changes but only partly, like changing the rear badge to the new style one and leaving the front one and wheel badges old just seems strange changing one and not all. Engine cover looks to have traces of oil that has been cleaned off but might just be someone who was a bit clumsy topping up? Anyhows offski will be along with a bit more info to look into.

thanks for that! Just re-checked the gov site twice with MJ11 DRZ and it's definitely coming back with petrol not Diesel. Will be up there later on to have a look properly.

There is another thread going at the min with new members with oil issues (an old topic) best have a read

MJ11 DRZ   Does come up on the MOT History site as diesel.    But obviously is not.

It did a good few miles 2016-2017, but not so many 2017-2018.

Check the History with Skoda on any Warranty for the first 3 years to see if it had an engine replaced.

I seem to remember having discussed this registration number before on a Black vRS.

Maybe it was a member here's car.

There are Dealers & Traders selling cars that they are clueless about.
