Honda Closing Swindon Production Operation by 2022 ? Brexit or Japanese trade deal with EU?

Featured Replies

Brexit would make sense: if the no deal scenario happens, then anything made in the UK will be subject to customs charges when exported which makes the plant unprofitable. It'll be more interesting to see where they move production to.

Honda Swindon

Looks like it would make a nice shopping centre if converted with plenty of parking and creating plenty of jobs for the former Honda employees. Just an idea and time will tell what happens to the site.

unfortunately no-one will have any money to spend in it!

Honda CEO Takahiro Hachigo announced the move Tuesday at the company’s global headquarters in Tokyo.

The production overhaul has nothing to do with Brexit and the decision was timed to the end of the end of the current Civic’s lifecycle, Hachigo said. It is part of a wider adjustment of Honda’s global production base to improve efficiency and better tailor product to local markets, he said.

"We have decided to carry out this production realignment in Europe in light of our efforts to optimize production allocation and production capacity globally as well as accelerating electrification," Hachigo said. "We have made this announcement today due to the timing for deciding on a production base for the next Civic. So, this decision has nothing to do with the Brexit

You've never been shopping with a woman then, they always have money to spend on groceries, clothes, make up/perfumes, shoes and of course a new handbag.

Bigger bargains in 30months, might upgrade the wife's Karoq to a run-out Civic Type R, there's a scary thought for anyone brave/mad enough to climb onboard with her.:tongueout:

Brexit isn't going to be the only reason they're doing this but it will be a factor or possibly just a palatable excuse

If they were intending to close the factory due to cost savings and restructuring, then Brexit gives them an out without losing (too) much face.

The Japanese don't have a word for failure as they are a proud nation. Hence the no surrender and suicide bombers during WW2 which ultimately led to the Hiroshima Experiment. Perhaps they need to cut back on production costs to fund their "SUCCESSFUL" engine program in F1 where they have customers teams lining up to use their powerful and reliable engines.:giggle:
