Admin Fees??!!

Featured Replies

Since when have garages started adding "admin fees" to the sale price? I'm on the search for a car for my sister and many of the garages have prices advertised and then in the description or website it says things like "all vehicles subject to a £££ admin fee*. Some are like £200 on top of the price! The whole point of a garage is to sells cars so factor the admin into any margin. I'm avoiding all these places. I've just seen one where the admin fee is £30. What's even the point????

Argh. Rant over.

Typically, and because of the ease of autotrader/internet, people will know prices of similar cars, click on the cheapest and overlook the admin fee. Autotrader (should) "enforce" listing admin fees and costs so it's not a surprise when you show up. £3900 vs £4100 on an identical car, which ad would you realistically click first?

If it is still the cheapest, local car even with the admin fee, then go and argue and accept a couple of quid off. If the car is more expensive because of the admin fee - enjoy a good haggle.

Absolutely build it into the total price of the car before going for a long drive to see it - it may make similar, nearer, slightly more expensive cars more attractive.

You're not the only person querying this charge!

Electric cars are coming so profit has to come from new inventions perhaps.

Next it will be parking fees for when you drop your vehicle off for a service.

You can't help yourself, it's like a form of tourettes! ;)

Haven't they always done this?

I think that pretty much every company that can get away with it does it.

I've never paid an admin fee to a garage. Always screen price or less.

Still on the hunt for a car!
