Strange noise on tick over

Featured Replies

My 2013 vrs oil burner has developed a strange noise on tick over. I can only describe  it as a clatter or spluter noise.  As soon as i hit the accelerator the noise disappears.  I've tried pressing clutch and  no change.  I also tried turning of the air con and no difference amd also  tried pressing  the brake pedal to see if it could ve vacuum pump related.  Anyone have thr same symtoms or have any idea what cpuld be the source of the noise.

Noise still here. Seems to be worse in cols weather.  Timing belt and water pump changed about 1000 miles ago.

My first guess was going to be belt (or similar). How about the belt tensioner?  Was that changed at the same time?  Could also be a loose bracket somewhere.

Thanks for the reply.  I have had the car back at the mechanic who has had a good look over it and he has no idea where the noise is coming from. It sounds like it's underneath the dash and almost sounds like a small blow in exhaust.

could be the swirl flaps if its coming from the back of the engine. they can chatter on idle on an older car

Just on idle.

Problem now solved ,turns out it was an air con pipe rattling off another one.

Just stumbled across you're cure for this after 7 months of misery trying to diagnose the same fault.......& It's worked on my car!! Mine started in Febuary after having a new windscreen fitted, I have just wedged a small microfiber cloth between the pipes till the weather improves & I can fix it properly.
