whine from rear of car - on idle & while driving

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have just taken ownership of a 2015/16 Yeti . 2.0 TDI ( 110 bhp model ) from a family member and have noticed a whine for the last few days . It comes from the rear of the car, I got out earlier today and you can 100 % hear it from the boot area outside the car and it seems if anything to be coming from the underside rear of the car, possibly driver side.

I have looked through a ton of posts but most come up as problems with tyres / bearings / wheels etc but these would not apply here as the problem is also there on idle. the sound is a constant highish pitch whining - does not sound like a grating or anything just a constant whine.

When driving I have not noticed it getting louder or quieter no matter what I do in the car - anyone have any ideas what it could be ? also saw Haldex pump touted as a possible problem but my Yeti is not 4wd.

Car has done 55K - and has been a little unloved only having one service - and is definitely due one !

Thanks for any ideas / advice

Likely to be the fuel pump, you can hear this sometimes. Probably nothing to worry about unless very noisy.

Best get servicing and preventative maintenance done.

+1 on the fuel pump. I've posted on this a couple of times.

I notice it more when the fuel level is getting low, around the 100 miles left mark, due to the empty tank amplifying the sound.

Thanks loads, that sounds like exactly what it is. Went on a long drive over the weekend, heard it for the first time the other morning when the fuel was low, and again this afternoon after returning home also with low fuel.

Will keep her topped up & get it serviced ! Thanks

I normally get a whine from the left hand seat.....but I have noticed it's only when SWMBO is sitting there :) ....

You got there 1 minute before me. Could also be the kids or even worse the mother-in-law.
