Options for two services plans

Featured Replies

Hi All, after having a 2011 Monte Carlo from new we decided to exchange it for a 2018 110bhp model.

I'm buying it from Arnold Clark and they have a 2 year service plan for £319. This includes small and major service and one MOT.

The Skoda dealer is quoting £405 for the same package.

Who would you choose in your opinion?

Thanks in advance and need to decide  by Friday! Cheers MontyNigel

What annual mileage are you doing and are you having the car on fixed servicing.

9,400 miles / 372 days or sooner.

?

How many miles has the car done now and has it had a Service, or getting one, or is it on Variable Servicing and not due?

Do you do higher mileage and Variable Servicing will suit and 18,000 / 24 month service intervals or sooner and the Service Plan is not going to be value or suitable.

I would not want the Arnold Clark Service Plan even if free.

The Skoda plan is overpriced.  The Skoda Servicing is almost nothing done.

Hi Skoffski and thanks for your swift reply. Annual mileage will be around 6000. Both dealers would do “what’s required for the 2nd and 3rd service, also mention would change spark plugs (if needed).

as it’s just over 12 months old I’ll need some “official” service while it’s under warranty.

Thanks again :-)

* Current mileage is 4400

I doubt either an Arnold Clark or Skoda Main Dealer technician will remove spark plugs before 40,000 miles, but maybe they will as they should at 40,000 or 4 years.

If looking they should be replacing.

The 1st service is near nothing, the 2nd is not anything more than the first other than the pollen filter.

The Air Filter should be replaced at a 2nd major service, but should be checked before and replace if needed.

You do need to be sure you have any Warranty work done before 3 years old.

Not sure what you mean by an 'Official Service;

You need to Service to Manufacturers Guidelines and then get a MOT done 1 month before it expires.

If any issues that are Warranty ones you get the car in before 3 years old to an Approved Repairer which is a Main Dealership.

Official means the service is not done by myself!

Was thinking the same about not needed the spark plugs changing, but it’s covered if they change it or not.

Thanks for the advice.

Arnold Clark should service the car now, so part of the purchase.

Change the Service Indicator to Fixed Service if on Variable.   So no extra cost.

In a Year at 2 years old it is not really a 'Major Service'  just a £99 one or a Service with Pollen Filter.

Year 3 a Service of what ever name. £99 or £150.  3 year old low mileage.

A Service plan @ 6,000 miles a year is a crazy price.

Hi Skoffski, Yeah, the delivery date was February 2018. I said a 12 month service is due and they’ll do it.

Really interesting points you made about the service indicator, didn’t know it had one and it could be changed!

Thanks again for your valued advice.

The car came from the Factory set on Variable.

It might have been changed at the PDI to Fixed, or maybe left on Variable.

Lets see if on Variable their Technician can reset to Fixed, or even reset it.     That is the Arnold Clark issue, all the gear and not always an idea or ability.
