Oil change factors and monitoring

Featured Replies

?

Which manufacturers building engines and selling cars are recommending oil changes at 5,000 - 8,000 miles in Euro 6 or WLTP Certificated cars?

Plenty recommend 'beyond' like 9,400-10,000 miles if doing fixed oil / filter servicing, or up to 18,000 & beyond with monitoring.

None that I know of George - that’s what’s most interesting to me.

How is European oil able to endure so much more?

Subaru do in Australia and maybe elsewhere.

Environmental conditions and climate and fuels in Europe.

Very different in general from other world regions with extremes.

Obviously there are extremes of cold and heat & humidity in what is recognised as 'Europe'.  Big place.

True long life change periods in Australia are mainly JLR - servicing is profitable.

Subaru Australia - kms 12,500  - 15,000.

Subaru had something like 5,000 mile oil change intervals to just recently.

A member here got shot of one with this regime.

EDIT.

My bad,

5,000 km or 3 months.     I bit like the Mitsubishi Evo were, and Subaru & Mitsubishi were with clutch life from Launch Starts.

You might as well not have a car, or leave it parked at the Subaru dealership for Sunday use and drive their Courtesy cars.

Servicing is where the dealerships maintain their financial viability...............BEVs are a very real threat to that model.
