Limp Mode and P0403

Featured Replies

hi

I hope someone can shed some light or help a little, i did try and have a search around but could not find an answer and im bit unsure myself what the issue is.

Im thinking EGR related.

I have 2012 Octavia 1.6 TDI

Few days ago i noticed that the glow plug was flashing but all was driving ok.

Yesterday glow plugs flashing and then went into limp mode, scanned it and got P0403.

Cleared all ok, last night i serviced car and when looked under try saw the following, not 100% what is what or where the oil is from but not been losing oil.

Today drover first thing and back in limp mode flashing plugs but when scanned shows no codes atm.

Any help would be great.

P0403 is EGR issue I think?

yes i think it is.
from what i have tried to read looks very expensive, or can you give them a clean out?

what part is that in the center that looks to be dirty or leaking???

It's free to give the EGR a clean, if you're able I'd take it off and give it a good going over - it's usually not too difficult for DIY, have a google and you can probably find a guide.

I'm not familiar with the 1.6TDI so I'm not sure where the oil is coming from - looks like the top of a gearbox in that picture? Perhaps give it a good clean and check it regularly, might make it easier to locate where it's coming from.

The EGR Valve on the 1.6 TDi's from VW are a known weak point. They are a pig to get at as they are buried deep at the back of the engine and need the drive shaft and sometimes exhaust to be dropped.

Book price from a dealer is around £700 as it is a 5-6 hour job!! Got any good independents near by?

Good luck!
